The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach
I read this a few months ago now, but just wanted to share with the world that it was terrific.
The story is what it’s all about and Harbach’s story is delectable. Which isn’t to say the writing disappoints - it doesn’t at all. Mostly straightforward stuff, paragraphs and paragraphs that read so smooth, you have to slow yourself down. And then, you land on something like this:
“The sky was a madhouse of riotous cross-blown clouds, the low ones wispy and torn-cotton white, the high ones gray with sullen underbellies shading to ominous black.”
Description is mostly a buzz kill. But I’ve never been so seduced by a bunch of clouds.
Read this book.
